In this culture we live in today, many people could care less about fact because their emotions say otherwise. Is this the right way of thinking?
People often try to use diversions, politics, or questions to prove the fictionality of Jesus. In this series we say why they don't prove it and answer them. However this time it's different. This time we look at people who use their emotions to decide if Jesus is real rather than evidence and logic. We will dive into why this is or isn't smart.
The Research
“Too often we see the Bible through whatever lens we get from out culture”
Frank Turek depicted a moral hierarchy that is built through the Bible. He uses the story in Matthew 23 of Jesus correcting the political leaders. Basically, Jesus critiqued the pharisees because they lived a relaxed life and held people t standards while there was so much in the bigger picture. In our terms, what are the politicians in our age doing right now. Most at the least are doing every action and breath with money in mind. While we have inflation, division, and other huge problems that need to be solved. What does this have to do with believing in Jesus. Well the same way politicians gloss over big stuff, maintain a relaxed life, and tackle smaller issues in life with money as the sole purpose, some, maybe even you, gloss over the evidence for Jesus, your afterlife, and creator, but tackle other issues in your life like pleasure, fame, money, and jobs. None of these things are wrong, but similar to politicians, by removing your focus from what truly matters, you miss the big picture.
“Motive runs the world”
Church hurt is tragic, but it's still not a valid reason to deny the evidence of Christ. Similar to how every bad thing isn't God's doing, every bad church isn't a God-Honoring Church. Mark from "The Comfort Zone" says "Jesus never said to follow my people" he said to "follow me". There are some amazing churches, but there's also bad ones. If a church hurt you or turned you off, follow Jesus. Jesus went into temples and flipped tables and went to leaders and called them out because of their hypocrisy and sin. Your job is to not lean on your emotions because the Bible says that our hearts are deceitful. Our emotions are fluctuent and not to be trusted. We always change opinions and perspectives, but the word of God never changes. A church may be sinful and hurtful to you, but lean on the word of God for the truth rather decide to focus on smaller issues in your life.
The Process
I watched Frank Turek, and Living Waters videos to get information and inspiration for this post. It was fun because in a lot of the videos he made jokes which had me take laughing breaks. I also enjoy their thoughts because of how biblically accurate they are. When I'm sitting in my living room writing these blogs, I have their videos playing in the backgrounds to help feed my brain while writing.
